Meckler's Back

Alan Meckler, CEO of Jupitermedia, is fully back in the trade show business after a one-and-a-half-year hiatus. He recently announced four shows, including one yesterday. Three focus on different aspects of the Internet, and the fourth focuses on information technology. You can read more about them on his blog.

One of the industry's more colorful, outspoken, and audacious players, Meckler sold his Search Engine Strategies Show in August 2005 to focus on marketing digital images.

People might remember Meckler best for very publicly bad-mouthing Comdex while launching an ultimately unsuccessful competitor -- in the same city, Las Vegas, and at the same time.

In fact, Meckler started his blog so he could fire shots at Comdex at will rather than wait for journalists like myself to call him for some incendiary comments. He smelled Comdex's blood in the water well-before the show actually died, although truth be told, so did a lot of other people.

Still, he's almost always ahead of the curve -- he launched Internet World in 1993 and sold it five years later, at the height of the dot-com boom -- so it pays to pay attention to Meckler and his latest trade show ventures.
