Hells Angels on Ice

Eight members of the Nordic chapter of Hells Angels Motorcycle Club were deported from Iceland last weekend on grounds of being a threat to public safety. The group was in Iceland to attend the 11th anniversary party of the Reykjavik based motorcycle club, Fafner. “We have enough criminals in Iceland already and we do not need to spice up the situation with Hells Angels,” said police spokesman Asgeir Karlsson when asked by local reporters on the scene.

This isn’t the first time Iceland officials have had a problem with “spice” entering their country. MeetingNews reported on a similar situation earlier this year in March when SnowGathering 2007, a five-day event for producers of Internet-based adult content had their show cancelled two weeks out.

Here's what I find fascinating about this, esp. w/ the cancellation of an entire event: Did no one at the hotels or elsewhere ask what the group was about? question their demographics? ask their meeting objectives? And how did this meeting receive a cancellation notice when the Marriott in NYC is having the cigar event even tho' Marriott's properties are smoke-free and this goes against their hotel policies? Marriott cited a contract but clearly a contract could be broken.
For the Hells Angels who were asked to leave a country - again, did someone not understand what the event was about? I am missing something ..clearly!
