Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but on 6/6/06 – which some people believe (or so the publicists for The Omen tell us) was the day of reckoning – it was announced that a study by the University of Chicago determined that “road rage” is a medical disorder.
Actually, the findings appeared on Monday, June 5, in the June issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry, but not to the world at large and besides, why ruin a good opening?
Anyway, the condition formerly known as road rage is now “intermittent explosive disorder” (IED) and is believed to include even nonvehicular intemperate behavior, such as those tantrums thrown by speakers, meeting attendees, and yes, even planners, as they, like raging motorists, experience obstacles in their respective paths.
